What changes when you have a shelf here
A class teaches you the basics. A membership gives you the hours to actually get good. Here is what having your own spot at Claya is built for:
- Make on your schedule. With your own keycode the studio is open to you 24/7, so an early morning before work or a quiet late night both count as studio time.
- Stop hauling your work around. Pieces in progress, tools, and half-finished experiments live on your own shelf between sessions.
- Fire the experiments, not just the keepers. Bisque firing is always free and glaze firing is free through December 31, 2026, so trying a new glaze combination costs you nothing but curiosity.
- Build skill through repetition. Centering, pulling walls, and trimming start to feel natural when you can come back to the wheel whenever you want.
- Find your people. Members make side by side in the same RiNo studio, with regular free member workshops and demos and a First Friday free guest night.
- Keep it simple. One monthly price, one shelf, one keycode.
How it works
- Reserve your spot online. Check out Extended Founding at $140 per month. Billing is monthly with a 2-month minimum.
- Come in for your first visit. Come the same day during Retail Studio Hours, or email info@clayastudios.com and we will set a time that works, including Sunday by appointment.
- Sign, shelve, and get your keycode. On that visit we walk through the member agreement together, assign your shelf, set up your keycode, and show you around the studio.
- Make whenever you want. Once you are signed and keyed, the studio is yours 24/7. Bring your projects, buy clay at member rates, and start firing your work.
What to expect on your first visit
What is included in your membership
Firing
- Bisque firing: always free.
- Glaze firing: free for members through December 31, 2026.
- Starting January 2027: 500 cubic inches of glaze firing included every month, roughly 10 pieces. Overage is $0.04 per cubic inch.
- Claya fires primarily in electric kilns to Cone 5/6.
Studio and materials
- Use of the studio's 22 pottery wheels, kilns, slab roller, and extruder
- Separate areas for throwing, handbuilding, glazing, and firing
- 22+ dipping glazes and a full underglaze palette
- Shared tools and bats, including ribs, trimming tools, sponges, and wires
- Free reclaim, always
- Clay at member rates, for example Rocky Mountain Clay BMX Cone 6 at $21 for 25 lb. Outside clay and glazes need advance approval so they are safe for the kilns.

24/7 keycode access after your first visit
Member access runs on your own keycode. It is set up in person on your first visit, right after you sign the member agreement. From then on you can come in at any hour of any day: before work, on a lunch break, or late at night when the studio is quiet and it is just you and the wheel.
The retail studio keeps Retail Studio Hours of Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, with Sunday by appointment. Those are the hours we are staffed for first visits and questions. Your member access is not limited to them.
Your own shelf in the studio
Every member gets one designated shelf, about 48 inches long, 18 inches wide, and 12 inches tall, which is at least 6 cubic feet of space. It is your home base for work in progress, pieces drying between sessions, and the tools you would rather not carry back and forth across town.
Working on taller pieces like vases, urns, or larger sculptural work? The Top Shelf add-on has no height limit and is $15 per month, limited to 20 members. Details are on the membership FAQ.
Who Claya membership is for
- Potters who have finished a beginner class, or have equivalent experience, and want more wheel time than a weekly class allows.
- Makers with a home practice who need kilns, glazes, and room to work that will not fit in an apartment.
- People with unpredictable schedules: shift workers, parents, early risers, and night owls.
- Anyone who wants a steady creative routine in the RiNo Arts District, a short walk from the 38th and Blake A Line station.
Membership is independent studio time. We ask for at least one beginner class or equivalent experience first, so you can work safely on your own without an instructor at your elbow.
Coming from a class? Here is your next step
If you have never worked with clay, start with a 6-week class. Each class is $300 to $325, is taught in a small group, and includes clay during class sessions, tools, glazes and firing, plus student open studio during the session (for open studio practice, clay is available for purchase on the shelf near the aprons). Six weeks covers the foundations, from wedging and centering to pulling walls and trimming.
When your class wraps up, membership is the natural way to keep going: same studio, same wheels, now on your own schedule with your own shelf and your own keycode.
Getting to the studio
Claya is at 3440 Walnut Street, Denver, CO 80205, between 34th and 35th in the RiNo Arts District. There is no private lot. Street parking is available near 34th and Walnut, all around the studio, and the 38th and Blake A Line station is a short walk away.
Membership questions
How much is a Claya membership?
Extended Founding is $140 per month, billed monthly, with a 2-month minimum. Memberships renew automatically on the same calendar day each month until you cancel.
What does the 2-month minimum mean?
Billing continues through the end of your second month even if you cancel earlier. After that you can cancel at any time at clayastudios.com/pages/cancel-membership with no notice period, and your studio access continues through the end of your current billing period.
Is glaze firing really free?
Yes. All glaze firing is free for members through December 31, 2026, and bisque firing is always free. Starting in 2027, membership includes 500 cubic inches of glaze firing each calendar month, roughly 10 pieces, and overage is $0.04 per cubic inch.
When can I use the studio?
Members have 24/7 keycode access once the member agreement is signed and your keycode is set up on your first visit. Retail Studio Hours, when the studio is staffed for first visits and questions, are Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, with Sunday by appointment.
Do I need pottery experience to join?
A little. We ask for at least one beginner class or equivalent experience before membership, so you are comfortable working independently and safely. If you are brand new to clay, start with a 6-week class and come back for your shelf.
How big is the member shelf?

Outside clay bodies and glazes must be approved in advance for kiln compatibility. Claya fires primarily in electric kilns to Cone 5/6, and members can buy Rocky Mountain Clay bodies at member rates, such as BMX Cone 6 at $21 for 25 lb. Reclaim is always free.

There is no private lot. Street parking is available near 34th and Walnut, all around the studio, and the 38th and Blake A Line station is a short walk from 3440 Walnut Street.
