How Long Is a Pottery Class in Denver?

At Claya in RiNo, a pottery class can be a single evening or a six-week course. One-night workshops run about two to three hours. Six-week wheel classes meet once a week for two and a half to three hours.

Here’s how each one breaks down, so you can pick what fits your calendar.

Six-week classes: one night a week

Six weeks gives you enough time to actually learn the wheel: centering, pulling walls, cups and bowls, trimming, throwing taller, and glazing. Intro to Wheel Throwing evening sections are $325:

  • Wednesday with Emili: 6:15–8:45 PM (2.5 hours a night), $325, in session now (sold out)
  • Monday with Mary: 6–8:30 PM (2.5 hours a night), $325, starts November 9 (sold out)

Mary’s Monday 12–2:30 PM section is $300 (starts November 9). Weekday daytime and Sunday sections are $300 (Friday daytime with Jesse; Sunday Dinnerware Sets with Ethan is sold out), also 2.5 hours a night.

Student open studio is included during your course, so you can add practice time whenever the posted open studio times work for you. Clay is included during class sessions; for open studio practice, clay is available for purchase at the studio.

One-night workshops

  • Hand Built Face Mugs: 6–8:30 PM, about two and a half hours, $60 (no date on the calendar right now; see one-night workshops). You make and glaze a mug with a face all its own, and Claya fires it.
  • Try the Pottery Wheel: 6–8:30 PM, two and a half hours. A relaxed first taste of the wheel.

Pieces from one-night workshops are fired by the studio and ready to pick up in about two weeks.

Private lessons

A private lesson runs 1.5 hours at $70 per person per hour: $105 for 1 person, $210 for 2, $315 for 3 (add more time at the same rate). Groups of four or more book a private event (email us for a quote). Add an optional one-hour Glaze Night later if you’d like to glaze your own work ($20 per person).

How long until I’m actually good?

That’s a different question, and a fun one. Most people are centering by the middle of a six-week class and making cups they’re proud of by the end. We wrote more about the longer learning curve in how long it really takes to learn pottery.

Pick your pace

  • One free evening? Face Mug or Try the Pottery Wheel.
  • Ready to really learn? Six weeks on the wheel.
