Pottery Classes near Lakewood
Lakewood spreads across the western edge of the Denver metro, a suburb defined by its proximity to the outdoors. Green Mountain trails, Bear Creek Lake Park, and easy access to the foothills make this a place where people know how to stay active and engaged. But even the most dedicated hikers and mountain bikers need a creative counterpart, something that uses your hands and quiets your mind in a different way. That is exactly what pottery offers, and Claya is about 20 minutes east in Denver's RiNo Arts District.
Why Lakewood Residents Love Claya
Lakewood residents are drawn to pottery for many of the same reasons they love the outdoors: it is tactile, it requires presence, and you end up with something real at the end. Our 6,000-square-foot studio gives you professional wheels, kilns, and a full glaze library in a space designed for focused making. The commute from Lakewood is about 20 minutes east on 6th Avenue or Colfax, both of which connect easily to the RiNo neighborhood. Students from Lakewood frequently tell us that the drive becomes a welcome ritual, a transition from the pace of daily life into the rhythm of the studio.
Classes and Membership
If you are new to the wheel, our Intro to Wheel Throwing is a six-week course that covers everything from centering your first lump of clay to glazing a finished piece. Each class holds a maximum of 12 students, so you will always have guidance close at hand. Wheel Throwing II is the next step for students who want to expand their repertoire of forms and techniques. For those who catch the pottery bug and want unlimited studio time, our 24/7 memberships start at $140 per month and include kiln access, storage, and access to all tools and glazes.
Getting Here from Lakewood
From central Lakewood, take 6th Avenue east into Denver and connect to Brighton Boulevard heading north into RiNo. Colfax Avenue is another reliable surface-street option that avoids the highway entirely. The drive is typically about 20 minutes. Our studio at 3440 Walnut Street Street parking is available near the studio.
Before and After Class
Once you are in RiNo, the neighborhood is full of places to eat, drink, and explore. Denver Central Market is a short walk from the studio, with local food vendors ranging from fresh ramen to artisan chocolates. The district's many breweries and coffee shops are perfect for a post-class debrief with fellow students. And back home in Lakewood, you can always cap the evening with a walk through Belmar Park or along the Bear Creek Trail.
