Why Teach at Claya?

Claya is located in the heart of Denver’s RiNo Arts District and is known for its clean, modern aesthetic; strong curriculum structure; and community-centered environment. Our studio supports everyone—from brand-new beginners learning to center clay for the first time to experienced students refining trimming, glazing, and form development.

We are seeking instructors who are excited to teach in a structured, demonstration-based format and who enjoy supporting students through every stage of the wheel throwing process.

This is not just a teaching job—it’s a chance to help shape one of Denver’s strongest pottery communities.

About the Wheel Throwing Instructor Role

Our Wheel Throwing Instructor position is designed for experienced ceramic artists who want to teach professionally in a well-equipped, well-organized studio. Courses run for 6 weeks, meeting once per week, with 3.5 paid hours per session (setup, instruction, and cleanup included).

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching Beginner and Intermediate wheel throwing classes
  • Demonstrating centering, pulling, shaping, trimming, and glazing techniques
  • Giving individualized feedback to help students progress
  • Maintaining class shelves and labeling systems
  • Creating a welcoming, positive classroom environment
  • Working with studio staff to streamline firing, reclaim, and overall workflow

Instructors also have opportunities to teach specialty workshops, advanced technique classes, and seasonal pottery sessions based on their strengths and interests.

Who We're Looking For

We’re hiring ceramics instructors who bring both technical proficiency and a positive, student-centered teaching style. Ideal candidates have strong wheel throwing skills, clear communication abilities, and a commitment to fostering a fun, encouraging, growth-oriented learning atmosphere.

Strong candidates will have:

  • Solid wheel throwing experience (required)
  • Prior teaching experience (preferred)
  • Strong trimming, glazing, and surface design skills
  • Ability to model kindness, patience, and clear instruction
  • Excellent punctuality and professionalism

Most importantly, our instructors help students feel confident, supported, and excited about ceramics.

Studio Culture: Kind, Welcoming, Community-Focused

Claya is built on a simple belief: if the instructors are having fun, the students will have fun too.

We emphasize:

  • Positive reinforcement
  • Supportive group learning
  • Collaborative communication
  • Clean, organized teaching spaces
  • Community-building at every level

Instructors play a key role in maintaining this environment. We value teachers who uplift others, communicate openly, and help improve studio systems behind the scenes.

Compensation, Perks, & Teaching Growth

We offer competitive compensation for pottery instruction in Denver, with room to grow.

Benefits include:

  • $30–$35 per hour, depending on experience
  • Class completion bonuses based on enrollment
