This Privacy Policy describes how Claya ("the app," "we," or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Claya iOS app and the firing-system portal at fire.clayastudios.com/m.

What we collect

We collect only the information needed to run your pottery firing through our studio:

  • Account info — name, email address, phone number (optional), and a 4-digit PIN you choose. Tied to your active Claya membership.
  • Drop-off details — dimensions (length × width × height) of each piece, the firing type (bisque or glaze), and an optional photo you take to help staff identify your piece at pickup.
  • Glaze notes — any private notes you write about a piece (glaze used, results, etc.). Visible only to you.
  • Payment info for glaze firings — payment is processed by Shopify; we never see or store your card number. We only see whether a Shopify draft order has been paid.

What we don't collect

  • No location data.
  • No advertising identifiers (IDFA, etc.).
  • No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
  • No browsing or usage telemetry beyond standard server logs needed to keep the service running.

How we use your data

  • To identify your pieces moving through the kiln and email you when they're ready for pickup.
  • To verify your active Claya membership status (via Shopify Subscriptions) before allowing drop-offs.
  • To process glaze firing payments (via Shopify checkout).
  • To send transactional emails: account verification, PIN reset, drop-off confirmations, pickup-ready notifications, and pickup reminders.

Where your data lives

  • Account + order data — Neon Postgres (US-East), accessed only by the Claya firing system server hosted on Vercel.
  • Photos of your pieces — Vercel Blob storage. URLs include a random suffix so they aren't guessable.
  • Payment data — handled entirely by Shopify under their own privacy policy.
  • Emails sent — delivered via Gmail (Google Workspace) on the Claya domain.

Data sharing

We do not sell your data, share it with third-party advertisers, or use it for any purpose unrelated to operating the firing system. The only third parties involved are:

  • Shopify (membership status, payment processing).
  • Vercel and Neon (hosting and database).
  • Gmail / Google Workspace (transactional emails).
  • Apple (App Store distribution, optional Sign In with Apple in a future release).

Your rights

  • Log out at any time via the Settings screen in the app — this invalidates your session on the server.
  • Edit or delete glaze notes any time.
  • Email info@clayastudios.com to delete your firing-system account, get a copy of your data, or ask any privacy questions. We respond within 7 days.

Children

The app is intended for Claya members aged 13 and up. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and notify active members by email for material changes.
